About the Author
Gwen Lawrence has been a practicing fitness professional since 1990. Her current practice includes private yoga training, class instruction, her sport-specific Power Yoga for Sports training program, and her VYX™ (Vinyasa Yoga Extreme) system. Gwen is the yoga instructor for several New York Yankees baseball players, team yoga instructor for the New York Giants and New York Knicks, and many youth teams in a variety of sports. Her writing appears in Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Fitness, Shape, and Yoga Journal.

i feel better overall. get it

what i was looking for. had a massive knee surgery and difficulty regaining mobility. tried physical therapy but could only go so far. this finally took me to a pain free motion and at least 95% of my mobility is back and continue working on the last 5% heck there's evan a side element….i feel better overall. get it, try it, it works

I really enjoyed this workout

I've just completed finished the six week program for Body Sculpting with Yoga. I followed her advice on days and times to work out, but instead of doing just one difficultly level, I did all three (so for each workout, I repeated it three times starting with beginner, then intermediate, then advanced). I have completed every workout in this book and followed her advice to the letter. Here's what I found:
1. You will get stronger, especially in the upper body and core.
2. You will shake and sweat.
3. You will need to make modifications if you have past injuries (especially knees).
4. You will not necessarily get any more flexible unless you add more of your own stretching to the workout.
5. You need to supplement this workout with more cardio.
I really enjoyed this workout. It gives you a great feeling of strength and vitality. Some of the moves don't flow seamlessly, but its nothing you can't work around. If I had one complaint, it is with the stretches at the end. She gives 8 or so stretches and then says to randomly pick any three at the end of every workout. I found her stretches to be awkward and potentially dangerous since she says to hold them for 3-5 minutes. I ended up doing my own more comprehensive stretching at the end to avoid muscle soreness the next day.
I would recommend this workout to anyone familiar with yoga alignment and caution beginners to really study the pictures and make sure their bodies are copying Gwen's. Also, I would stress that these workouts are more inclined toward athletes and strength training, so if you are looking for flexibility, more advanced twists/backbends or meditative postures, you will have to supplement.

Not sculpting with yoga, but yoga and then sculpting with weights

I must admit I am disappointed. I was very excited to find a book on body sculpting with yoga as I would love to combine weightlifting and yoga. Weightlifting alone has stressed my body too much lately, and I could feel great only after practicing yoga. I miss strenght training though and was hoping to read in this book about combining those two discicplines. I was expecting more of yoga poses with weights, incorporated in a fluid way - more of routines that can be found on DVD - Yoga for weight loss for beginners with Maggie Rhoades. Instead you can find here yoga poses and weight lifting exercises separately - as bench press, rows etc, and then descriptions of the routines that have those exercises included, usually first yoga poses and then exercises with weights.

There's nothing wrong with it, and maybe beginners on both topics will be satisfied with this book, but having 30 books on yoga and 20 on weighlifting I don't need anoher book describing those exercises separately.
I can make such routines on my own, practicing yoga asanas first and then proceeding to weighlifting.
There's just nothing innovative here!
Well, I just think the title of the book is misleading. This is not body sculpting with yoga.This title would be more accurate for any power yoga DVD or book..

The book has some info on cleansing the body with diet which I found quite usefull. That's why I give a book 2 stars.
