About the Author
Craig Cashwell: Craig S. Cashwell, Ph.D., LPC, NCC, CSAT, ACS, is Professor in the Department of Counseling and Educational Development at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He has over 100 publications on various topics with a primary focus on spirituality in counseling. He is the co-editor of Integrating Spirituality and Religion into Counseling: A Guide to Competent Practice, published by the American Counseling Association. Craig has received numerous awards, including outstanding mentor awards from UNCG and the Conference of Southern Graduate Schools, the Chi Sigma Iota International Thomas J. Sweeney Professional Leadership Award, and the Association for Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling (ASERVIC) Lifetime Service Award. In 2011, Craig received designation as an ACA Fellow. Additionally, Craig is a CSAT who maintains a part-time private practice focused on sex addiction and couple counseling.
Pennie Johnson: Pennie Johnson, LPC, LCDC, CSAT, CMAT, has a passion for working with congregations and their church members who are suffering with addiction, primarily sexual addiction. She is employed full time by New Freedom Holdings as a project manager and is currently a doctoral student at Walden University in the Counselor Education and Supervision program.
Patrick Carnes: Dr. Patrick J. Carnes is a nationally known speaker on addiction and recovery issues. Get this book!

Having worked with hundreds of Christian men and women over the last 15 years, I have used a variety of texts to help them to face the realities of sexual addiction and how it has impacted their lives. As both a therapist and a Christian, what I sought most was a book that accurately combined biblical principles with sound clinical knowledge: "Shadows of the Cross" provides both!
This text will be an invaluable resource to those who grapple with the question, "Can I be a follower of Christ and struggle with sexual addiction?" Through various personal stories, spot-on biblical references, the practice of spiritual disciplines (e.g., prayer, journaling, contemplation, silence), and the accumulation of research-based interventions, those who struggle WILL find solutions. Terrific clinical resource from Christian perspective

After providing Christian based treatment for sexual addiction since the mid-1990s, I believe that sexual addiction is the addiction of choice among this population of faith. For years Christian clients and clinicians alike have begged for clinically sound materials that speak from their spiritual belief system. Shadows of the Cross combines the proven worth of the Task Model with the truth and language of scripture. Using the parables of Jesus and other passages, this much needed resource is a treasure that multiplies the blessings of both clinical excellence and the healing of the Great Physician. I find the companion is a must have to go ...

I find the companion is a must have to go with the course. It causes me to slow down and get to the bottom of the issues. It forces you to focus on your relationship with God. Knowledge of the problem is not enough if you don't pursue the restoration. Following the book is helpful.
