About the Author
Julie Festa de Lagarde is a California State Board certified acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist. She received her BA in Theatre and Dance from the University of California at Santa Cruz and earned her Master’s degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Emperor’s College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. An avid athlete since childhood, Julie competed as a runner starting at age 5. She performed as a modern dancer on both the East and West coasts from 1993 to 2007. Julie is a Senior level tai chi practitioner with the rank of 2nd level black belt in Classical Yang Family Style Tai Chi. Her training includes medical chi gong, tai chi sword and the 6-foot bo staff. In addition to tai chi, Julie has completed her yoga teacher training, studied tae kwan do, studied Klein Technique, and enjoys surfing. She and her husband joyfully welcomed their daughter into the world in 2010.

A Super Encouraging Book

I have been so encouraged by Real Fit at Every Age. It’s not your average fitness book– she combines her experience as a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner with her experience as an athlete as well as someone who had lost her joy of movement for a number of years, to show the way back into the joy of movement and health. That really resonated with me. I believe we’re made to move and find deep delight and health through taking our bodies through their paces in a healthy way.

She addresses all the issues that may arise– adrenal fatigue, age, injury, inertia are just a few– and has such a refreshing attitude about getting strong again and enjoying the fact that we are made to move. If you are wanting to strengthen your body and move more, I would definitely encourage you to pick up this book– it’s great.

My Go-To Guide for Creating a VITAL Life!

Julie is my go-to pro when I'm looking for accountability, inspiration, and motivation to be my best self and live a vital life. Her book, Real Fit at Every Age, delivers exactly that in a clear, simple and attainable way. I love that this book will grow right along with me and is something I can reference and reconnect to no matter where I find myself tomorrow, in a year, or even 20 years from now.

A balanced approach to exercise... finally!

I am so impressed by this book's balanced approach to exercise -- that is so lacking in most fitness books. It's all about fitting activity naturally into your life, which looks different at different stages of your life. I really need to be flexible (but consistent!) in my routine, and this book really helps you see how to do that.
