An Excellent Resource

This book is an absolute must for an parent or caregiver dealing with Perthes! As a parent of a child with AVN, a form of Perthes, I cannot say enough about how much this book helped me understand the condition without a medical background, the treatments available, and the practical tips to helping care for our child. Since there is so many variables at play with a condition like this, such as age and stage of the condition, it was very helpful to read the individual cases, and see what those particular families experience was. My daughter's particular condition is a result of hip dysplasia treatment, and I would also highly recommend Betsy Miller's book The Parent's Guide to Hip Dysplasia. These books are truly lifesavers to parents like us who have been handed a diagnosis that we knew practically nothing about and were completely overwhelmed by the information on the internet. Even when we have excellent doctors that explain things very well, it is always a very overwhelming experience to find out your child has a somewhat rare condition... so many questions, so many things to grasp.. and you're trying to keep your child happy during an often anxiety-ridden appointment. So, having the chance to sit down and really absorb the information from credible sources is a powerful thing. A heartfelt thanks to Betsy Miller and Dr. Charles Price from my family for educating us, and perhaps most importantly, letting us know we are not alone.

Excellent Resource for Parents

I went into this book knowing very little about Perthes. In the end, I feel that I have a fairly good understanding of Perthes, its stages, and treatments. This book is written in a way that is easy to understand. While it includes some medical terms, they are explained in a way that someone outside the medical field can easily understand. There are also many tips for how to handle things such as possible cast time, pain management, and preparing your child for surgery, to name a few. This is not just a medical handbook to explain what is going on with your child, it is a well-written handbook to help make dealing with this complex condition easier.

Fantastic book!

My 4 yr old daughter has Perthes disease. I was so confused about the disease after doing as much research as I could online. This book has been FANTASTIC! I finally feel like I understand this disease and the options we have moving forward! I highly recommend this book to anyone who knows a child with Perthes and wants to understand it better.
