How often do you dream? Did you know that dreams are your subconscious creating a possible world? Sleep is an involuntary feature of being human. Even though our body and conscious mind takes a rest/break, our subconscious mind, the most powerful weapon in our arsenal, never takes a break. It continues weaving possible universes and scenarios relevant to you. This is not a new phenomenon. In fact, the history of sleep, dreams and lucid dreaming dates back into the BC era and the ages of Egyptians and Greeks.

The question of why we dream in the dream state and the lucid state is an age-old one; in the same range as why are we alive, and are we alone in the universe. This then means that the question is a controversial one and one that draws in many and varied opinions. Unfortunately, there is no definitive and straightforward answer to what/why dreams are part our physiology. However, given that dreaming is as natural as taking a breath and common in almost everyone, scientists draw from this to inspire new experiments into the field. The funny thing is that you dream often, most probably every day and even on days, you cannot recall your dream. Science shows that you dream for a minimum of one or two hours every night. Observations of children in their sleep state led to studies of sleep pattern in adults. This led to the theory and literature about rapid eye movement (REM). REM is the period considered ideal for normal dreaming. REM then became the ideal backbone for dream studies in the laboratory. REM in children is at a rate of 50% while that of an adult is 22%. For most adults, REM happens every 90 minutes. The first cycle is short, lasting about three minutes. This increases with each cycle of sleep with the longest one being 55 minutes in the wee hours of the morning.

During REM sleep and dream state, your muscles have no motion i.e. they are in a temporary state of paralysis. This protects you from physically acting out your dream and hurting yourself in the process. An interesting point to note is that in the REM state, your eyes can move so can your fingers and toes. Earlier on in the study of lucid dreams and new age dreams, scientists believed that dreaming only happened in REM sleep. Scientists no longer hold this opinion. They have concluded that dreaming falls into different categories and can fall during any other sleep cycle. Did you know that we sleep for a third of our life? Did you also know that a quarter of that time is spent in the REM dream state? Research into dreaming also shows that this may not be accurate and humans may be spending more time dreaming especially outside the REM state.

An Interesting and Provactive Read

I found this book to be very well written. The author delicately shares information that makes you think about dreams and what they may mean. This book is written in a very professional manner. Readers will learn about lucid dreaming and can follow exercises that teaches the reader how to engage in lucid dreaming. The opening of the book covers an in-depth history of dream research and the stages of sleep one reaches each night.
Readers can learn how to affect their dreams and how to remember them as well. The book is an easy read and the author has done a wonderful job of engaging the reader throughout the entire book.
The book speaks of the types of dreams one may have along with techniques to use to help readers remember their dreams. The author does a good job introducing and explaining how to dream and the different stages one will go through during dream state. Readers will learn how to control dreams and how to have out of body experiences.
The book contains a dream dictionary with dream interpretations. Readers will learn about dream recall and techniques on how to remember dreams once awoken from one. This book is very educational and I really enjoyed reading it and am excited to try some of the techniques listed in this book.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to change how they dream and or understand dream states and sleep cycles. If you are looking for more information about lucid dreaming and get the low down info about why we dream than this book is for you.

What's more amazing is that you cannot practice strong dream recall unless ...

While reading this book, I can't help but think of the movie by Leonardo Di Caprio "Inception" about entering to dreams to manipulate the real world. There were many loopholes in the study of dreaming, but this book will help you in a way to bring the subconscious mind to the conscious. There were precautions provided so that you will avoid being trapped to your own dreams. It is actually impressive to read this book on how you can manage lucid dreams. What's more amazing is that you cannot practice strong dream recall unless you have stronger mind. There were great tips to strengthen your mind to practice not only dream recall but scripting dreams. Genius.

Control your dreams!

As someone really interested in spirituality, I cannot skip the topic of lucid dreaming. I never thought it would be possible to develop more awarness and intuition by practising lucid dreaming ...but I was wrong.This book is one of the most helpful resources I came across so far- well-written and with simple, practical steps for you to follow. You will learn how to control your dreams and how to remember them...We spend 1/3 of our loves sleeping...why not dream about nice things?
I like the fact the author also included an extra chapter on how to interpret dreams.
Overall- great book!
